Named ‘Triple Eight Sport’ for the avoidance of doubt, the brand was launched back in 2008 and so while it is not one of the oldest bookmakers around; it is one of the more established online entities in the bookmaking world.

888sport showed immediately their knowledge that brand identity is important by quickly sponsoring various sportspeople and venues, though a move like this can often mask some flaws in their levels of service which we’ll cover in our 888sport horse racing review.

In our review we’ll take you through their promotions, betting markets, banking options and more to help you assess whether or not 888sport is the bookmaker for you.

888sport Sign Up Offer

Currently the brand are offering a new customer deal of ‘Bet £10, Get £30’.  All you have to do as a new customer is make a note of the current promo code (as this can change regularly) and register your new account.

You enter your code when depositing your first cash with 888sport, after that you have to make a qualifying bet of £10 or more.  Your bet can be a win or each-way bet but must be at odds of 1/2 (1.5) or greater.

From this point you’ll be rewarded with two straight up £10 free bets and one £10 free bet for mobile only, making a total of £30 in free bets.

Your welcome bonus can be used on any sports, though it’s particularly good for 888sport horse betting as it is unusual that we can expect to get 300% of the money we use to place a bet for free.  The only down side is that in cash terms, £30 is not a lot and doesn’t really live up to the 100% deposit matches we see elsewhere on the market which can go right up to £100.

888sport Ongoing Promotions

Take a look at 888sports ‘special offers’ page, located right at the top of the main site.  In here you’ll see a host of offers for sports and casino players, the top one of course being the aforementioned welcome offer.

Also promoted right now is the ‘Euro Acca Boost’.  This football bet surrounds players betting on a European treble or bigger and getting DOUBLE WINNINGS tokens if the bet is successful.  The bet must be placed on either the Champions League or the Europa League and free bet tokens have to be used in the same competitions too.

The most interesting promotion in terms of 888sport horse racing betting though is undoubtedly the ‘Win Win’ promo.  This offer runs every single day and gives us the chance of a £5 free bet.  Simply back a winner at 4/1 or bigger at £10 or more and the free bet is yours.  You can do this once a day, every day making it one of the sweeter deals on the market in our opinion.

Lots of firms offer acca insurance these days but it is almost exclusively used for football bets.  A good initiative from 888sport however is their own ‘Acca Saver’ offering money back on losing multiples across football, horse racing and greyhounds.

Simply place a multiple bet of at least six legs on any of the above sports at £2 or over (minimum odds of 1/2 or 1.5 per leg) and if one lets you down you get your money back, up to £25, as a free bet.  This is a pretty good initiative as too often such deals are reserved for one sport only.

Security

So is 888sport safe to bet with?  Well as a large, modern day sportsbook it won’t surprise you to learn that the broad answer is ‘yes’.  888sport work with regulations in Gibraltar, they are licensed buy the UK Gambling Commission and as such have very high standards to adhere to.

Their licensing information as well as their commitment to responsible gambling can be found on the official website if it’s something you wish to look into however we’ve done this for you and they are all above board.

888sport use encryption tools to ensure that your data is protected; these tools are fully up to date and ensure your personal and banking details are not at risk.

888sport Horse Betting Features

888sport online horse betting is strong enough, offering early odds on all UK and Irish meetings as well as those in South Africa and the USA on a daily basis.

Click on their horse racing section via the top of the website and rather than viewing ‘next off’, go to ‘meetings’ where you will see a full list of the day’s action.  An ante-post section is also listed.

When clicking through into a race you see selections given to help you along, not that most punters will trust a tip from a bookie, and below that all the latest prices.  To the right you have the option to bet forecasts and tricasts but other that this there are not a lot of horse racing markets to choose from.

888 claims to be one of the most competitive online bookmakers out there to bet on horses with, citing its icard tool which gives a predicted outcome as well as offering live streaming of races.  The streaming is good, but this alone does not make 888sport a value bookmaker and in truth they could do with more racing markets.

To qualify for live streaming, simply place a bet on any of the UK and Irish races on a daily basis and you will be eligible.  The quality of the service is very good and definitely adds to the enjoyment, especially for those betting on the go as the streaming service is also offered on the mobile and app versions of the site.

This allied with the free £5 bet for backing a winner at over 4/1 makes the horse racing section at least passable, it’s certainly not the worst we’ve seen, but contrary to their marketing you won’t always find the very best prices on a race with 888sport which is the fundamental thing to get right and without being able to bet on the Tote for example many punters will wish to take their business elsewhere.

One last positive for the 888sport horse racing section is that they are fully on the ‘best odds guaranteed’ bandwagon and that is a good thing.  Simply back your horse and take the price and if it wins at shorter odds, you get the price you’ve taken. If the odds are longer at the off however then you can have the bigger price.

Other Betting Markets

It’s important to us that a bookmaker offers so much more than horse racing and this is an area 888sport do not let us down in.

Bets can be placed on football, darts, cricket, golf, tennis, greyhounds, rugby, basketball, snooker and a whole lot more besides with odds being generally pretty fair across the board.

Across just about all of these sports you will find that you can place live, in-play bets too which is what any discerning online bookie should have in their locker these days.  All of this can be done on the move as well, the mobile site and app working particularly well and often carrying their own bonuses.

Mobile Betting Options

The 888sport horse racing app and mobile website perfectly compliment the main site with all features intact.  They work fast, look slick and lack nothing.

The app is available on Android and Apple and covers live betting, live streaming of all UK and Irish horse races, gives the cash-out option on your live bets and also offers the chance of a bonus as £10 of your opening £30 free bets offer is to be used on the mobile sites.

Betting on the go is important to us these days so the fact this app works so well is a major tick in the plus column for 888sport.

Banking Options

As a modern, forward-thinking bookmaker we expect that you should find no shortage of banking options and this is the case with 888sport.  Your horse racing bets, sports bets and live wagering can all be funded by a variety of methods.  Here’s the full list:

All baking options appear to be free of any fees at all which is very much to 888sport’s credit, though not all information is readily available so be sure to ask about this yourself  BEFORE you open an account.

Customer Support

It has to be said that 888sport don’t make it incredibly easy to contact them when you have an issue, their details being buried at the bottom of the website behind a couple of links.

When you do get an option to call you must choose your country and which part of the business you are enquiring about.  The lines are freephone, but are only open from 9AM to midnight which is pretty shoddy in this day and age to be fair.  We’d like to see freephone lines available 24/7 like a lot of big firms.

You can contact the firm via a rather old fashioned looking webform and while agents are generally fairly knowledgeable, it does take them a little while to reply.

If you have a specific complaint about something, and it has to be said some punters do, then you have to read their complaints procedure which will encourage you to email support@888sport.com and await a reply which frankly isn’t good enough.  There is no live chat option with 888sport.

888sport Company Details

Various brands including bingo, sports, poker etc are kept apart on different websites by 888 and their 888sports brand was started back in 2008 as a subsidiary of 888 Holdings plc.

888 Holdings is more commonly known these days as 888.com and is now a public company, owner of several gaming brands and is based in Gibraltar though listed on the London Stock Exchange.

The original business was founded way back in 1997 by two entrepreneurs in Israel, beginning life as Virtual Holdings Limited.  The business grew over the years and took hold of a good share of the European market before in 2013 the Nevada Gaming Commission licensed it to be one of the first non-US firms to operate in the States.

888sport is a member of ESSA, the European betting integrity body and is well known for a strong social media presence and for putting money back into sport via sponsorship.

888sport Bottom Line

Taking an overall view; this brand is ethical, has a strong offering in terms of live sport, lots of betting markets and a few tasty promotions to compliment them all of which is strong however there are a couple of elements of their service that just bother us a little.

Getting in touch with 888sport is not as quick and easy as it should be. Once your money is with them, the last thing you want to feel is that you can’t speak to them as and when you want to discuss it.  A 24/7 Live Chat service would just complete things for us on this score.

From a specific horse racing point of view as well we could do with seeing more markets in what is a rather basic looking horse racing section on the main site.

Overall though your money is safe with 888sport, odds are generally fair, promotions are decent and the website and mobile apps work superbly to give players a good feel.
