Although they aren’t one of the traditional names on the British high street, Betway have risen among the ranks of European online bookmakers pretty quickly and they are now truly making their mark as one of the more popular sportsbooks around, operating in many territories around the world.
Something that is synonymous with European bookmakers is the fact that they offer many markets on a lot of different sports – in fact Betway have over 30,000 every week on their site with bonuses offered up for new customers.
Their shtick has been to invest plenty in sponsorship with football and horse racing a particular target of theirs over recent times, giving them a more trustworthy name among racing punters.
Betway Sign Up Offer
Taking a line that mirrors many other traditional bookmakers, the current Betway sign up offer is the ‘£30 Free Welcome Bet’ deal.
Free bets are given to new customers and can be used on any sport, including horse racing. If you win with your free bet, winnings are placed straight into your account minus the free bet stake.
The bonus is a 100% deposit match which in terms of percentages is very good, but the fact that the maximum is £30 puts them some way behind the best in the industry, namely bet365. For smaller players this remains good, but remember if you only deposit £10 initially then this is the amount you’ll claim as a free bonus.
This bonus works on your first deposit only and your qualifying bet will need to be a single at odds of 3/4 (1.75) or bigger, an each-way bet at 2/5 (1.40) or bigger or a system bet at the same price.
One thing we noticed with this bonus is that, despite this being a match based on your first deposit, you will also have to bet that entire amount on your first wager. So, if you placed £30 into your account (the maximum for the bonus) but then bet only £15, then you will still only receive £15 as a free bet.
Betway Ongoing Promotions
In all truth this area is a bit of a letdown overall for Betway with promotions very thin on the ground at the current time. Perhaps a direct consequence of the money they plough into sports sponsorship? Who knows?
Currently on their main site you will find only two active promotions but that includes the welcome offer for newbies. The only Betway promo being offered up for existing customers is the Betway Free Bet Club.
The Free Bet Club is something you will have to opt into so be sure to do that if you sign up to Betway as this will not happen automatically. The Club gives regular bettors the chance to claim £10 in free bets every week, but this will only happen if you’re a fan of trebles.
Place at least £25 on trebles (or higher) in a single week and Betway will credit you with £10 in free bets. You need only opt in once and the promo will keep running, crediting you automatically with your free bets as long as you keep reaching the qualifying conditions.
The £10 is settled in two segments; a £5 free bet given on Saturday and a £5 free bet credited on Monday. All markets are eligible and you must place your bet at odds of 2/1 or greater. It would be best to use this on singles, doubles etc as using the free bet will naturally not count towards the following week’s qualification.
Some temporary offers on horse racing do exist, see below for more details.
It’s a bit of a prerequisite with online bookmakers operating in major territories of course, but it’s worth mentioning anyway that Betway have done what is needed in terms of making their platform safe and secure.
All payments, deposits/withdrawals etc, are reliable and trustworthy with the firm having a full accreditation form the Malta Gaming Authority where they are now based. Their top class security system means that their handling of money and information is 100% secure.
Betway sought out an independent regulator, in their case eCORGA, to give them a Safe and Fair certificate which keeps them within strict guidelines. They have good SSL digital encryption meaning all your date is safe.
Betway Horse Betting Features
Although you can bet on a myriad of sports with Betway, their main links at the top of the page concentrate on football, tennis and of course horse racing.
Clicking through the racing link will bring you first of all to a few horse racing promos. The firm are best odds guaranteed on all UK and Irish races, meaning if you take a price on your horse and the SP is bigger you will be paid out at the bigger odds.
A free competition is currently running too whereby you can enter, pick the winners of four races chosen by Betway and win a top prize of £1000.
The ‘next race off’ is something most sites have now, showing live odds for the very next race to run which will take in races in South Africa, the States and Australia among other places.
Click on ‘today’ though and you will find a more comprehensive list of all the day’s racing with the UK and Ireland at the top. Within each race you’ll see the synopsis and tip from Timeform which is a plus, along with the option to bet win or each-way on the race but other than that, there’s nothing much going on.
There is not a great deal of options in terms of markets with here; no Totepool or exotic bets to speak of really but the last major plus is that you can stream UK and Irish races live in good quality. The feed comes directly from AtTheRaces and Racing UK meaning you’ll get the professional commentary and perhaps tips too, though that may prove fruitless as you’ll have made your mind up and placed a bet before being allowed into the live stream.
We have to take everything on its merits so in all fairness if all you are bothered about is betting your bet on in the morning, taking the price and getting best odds guaranteed then the site will not let you down. Prices are fair, margins are good and it’s a good basic horse racing service.
If you are looking for good price specials, heavy bonuses and exotic bets however Betway is not the best option for horse racing punters although do look out for any specials they have surrounding the big festivals such as Cheltenham, Aintree, Ascot and Goodwood.
At the very least odds can be placed and are settled quickly and you can use your welcome bonus on all horse races, which is probably the sensible thing to do in order to try to enhance the experience.
Other Betting Markets
We’re not being facetious here at all, but some people are more interested in quantity than quality so if bonuses and specials are not your thing but want plenty of betting options on a day-to-day basis then Betway do have that covered.
Click on ‘sports’, look down the left side of the screen and you will see options for football, horse racing, basketball, virtual sports, American football, ice hockey, cricket, tennis, darts, rugby, boxing, golf, greyhounds, snooker, Aussie rules, badminton, baseball, curling, cycling, formula 1, table tennis and even more besides!
There are over 30,000 individual betting markets offered up across their various sportsbooks each week so, once again, choice is not something Betway are lacking.
A few better promos and odds boosts wouldn’t go amiss within the sports betting section here but, if you are a fan of football in particular, then you should not struggle to find an appropriate bet especially within the major leagues and cups.
Mobile Betting Options & Apps
Betway’s mobile app is available without having to download anything so that is always an option, the mini site being a good copy of the main platform with all links easy to navigate and everything working smoothly and quickly.
The main page on the mobile site features a numbers of ads first up with the menu drop-down being in the top left of the screen which leads you to find all the same options as displayed on the main site. The same promotions, live in-play bets and streaming are all offered meaning betting on the go is not a problem.
The Betway horse racing app is available for all smartphones and tablets on Android and Apple, where it gets 4.6 out of 5 from current users. Whatever we think about the quality of betting markets and promotions, there are zero complaints with the quality of the app.
It is slick, quick, easy to use and allows you to access the same £30 free bet promotion should you choose to use this method to sign up to Betway. Live streaming can be accessed using the app and all betting markets are featured making this one of the highlights of the Betway service.
There are no shortage of banking options with Betway so you should have no problem finding a way to deposit your betting bank. Betway horse racing offers, fixed odds bets and promots can all be funded by a variety of methods. Here’s the full list:
|Method||Deposit Time||Min Deposit||Max Deposit|
|Visa/Maestro debit cards||Instant||£5||£20,000|
|Visa/MasterCard credit cards||Instant||£5||£20,000|
And now the downside. Betway are genuinely coy about withdrawal methods which concerns us somewhat. For the longest time punters’ biggest bugbear with bookies is the fact that they are eager to take our money with instant deposits but aren’t so quick to pay out. Make sure you contact Betway and ask about withdrawal amounts, times and fees for your choice of payment before you sign up.
As mentioned above, there are reasons to contact Betway even before you sign up so be sure to get onto them and iron out any concerns you have before you deposit your money.
Betway do offer plenty of quick ways to get in touch, the live chat service being the best of the lot meaning you will get instant answers to queries from what are knowledgeable and polite agents.
You can also email the firm at email@example.com which can prove just as effective, though you will wait a little longer for your answer, sometimes up to a couple of days.
Betway’s customer service phone line can be reached at 0808 238 9841 however once more there is a problem here in that it is not a round-the-clock service. The lines are open Monday – Sunday, 8AM til Midnight. Operatives a great to deal with and know their stuff, though they really should be made available round the clock in today’s betting environment.
Betway Company Details
It’s been a quick journey for Betway having started as recently as 2013 as the Hippodrome Casino. In-play betting was the initial niche they concentrated on and they expanded quickly during their first couple of years.
Having concentrated on getting varying licenses in different territories they made sure their name was out there by sponsoring different teams and events, including various large European football clubs and being the official sponsor of West Ham United.
As sports betting began to be legalised in the USA, Betway made sure they weren’t being left behind and have been involved in the scene there since 2017. As of 2018 Betway now boasts as many as 190,000 live events in more than 50 different sports.
Betway Bottom Line
Betway, maybe entirely because of their sponsorship commitments, haven’t really done enough in terms of offering good bonuses and promotions to existing customers and their sign up bonus too is rather lacking at a maximum £30.
Quantity is what they do well with; 50 sports, 30,000 individual markets and live streaming on many of them are at least a positive while their app is one of the best on the market.
If you require plenty of options we wouldn’t put you off Betway, but if it’s quality you’re after in terms of bonus amounts and regular rewards for players the frankly we’d encourage you to look elsewhere.
