Genting, which began life in Malaysia, has been around on the bricks and mortar casino scene for a long time now and is one of the most recognisable brands around UK cities in that field.

Having had great success with its table games, the firm is now branching out into the sports betting field online and they’ve made a good start with their very good-looking site.  Here we take a look at what’s good and what could be improved within the Genting Bet sportsbook, especially from the point of view of horse racing punters.

Genting Bet Sign Up Offer

It’s always nice when we can get bad news out of the way first, and in the case of Genting’s sportsbook bad news is what surrounds their promos.

Their overall promotions are very limited and not exactly the most generous on the market, but we’ll come to that later, while the only live offer for brand new customers is shockingly low for a company of this size.

True, they are new to online sports betting, but they have plenty of funds behind them from their well-established casino business and so the £25 first bet insurance is and interesting offer to say the least.

To get this deal, you simply join Genting Bet and place your first bet of £10 or more at odds of even-money (2.0) or bigger and if it doesn’t win it will be refunded up to £10.

Where to even start with this.  Many customers will want their first bet to be much larger than £10, but this is the maximum you can be insured for meaning not only is the amount low but we also cannot call it a 100% insurance either.

If you win, there is no bonus coming your way at all and the minimum odds of 1/1 are also a little high with many other established brands allowing at least 1/2 (1.50).

Genting Ongoing Promotions

Genting’s ongoing promos have room to improve. Only three other promotions are live on the site; one attempting to turn football punters into casino players which we never like, one offering a £5 free bet to football bettors and one is ‘best odds guaranteed’ on horse racing which really should be standard by now and not classed as a promo at all.

The Premier League Top Scorer promotion surrounds players getting a £5 free bet to use on game week one in the league, though it means you will have to make a minimum £10 bet specifically on the top scorer market, a long-term one of course, before being given the free fiver to use over the Premier League’s opening weekend.

Goals = Spins is an offer aimed at converting people to Genting’s more profitable casino enterprise.  Customers placing a bet of £10 or more on specified football games at odds of 1/2 or bigger then qualify for free spins.

Lastly, Genting are advertising Best Odds Guaranteed as a promo, something we see as standard practice all day long with established horse racing firms.  In this case, BOG works from midday to 9.30PM on UK and Irish racing.

Already this can be marked out as a major area for improvement within the Genting sportsbook, as established players are increasingly looking to grab generous promotions to boost their banks, keep playing and especially to be tempted away from their current bookmaker.

Genting Bet Horse Betting Features

The horse racing section of the site is featured high up, so it seems the firm are switched on to the fact that, other than football these days, horse racing still ranks as the sport people want to bet on in this country.

Getting the negatives out of the way first; while prices seem fair on most races you’d struggle to find Genting being top price on many runners.  Also, all of their action is strictly UK and Irish only, there are no French, American or Australian races available to bet on which is a shame but the news isn’t all bad.

As well as a ‘futures’ tab, essentially international language for ‘ante post’, Genting Bet shows odds for ‘today’, ‘tomorrow’ and the next day.  Adding that extra day we feel should be done by most bookmakers considering that flat racing declarations in the UK are done 48 hours in advance, so we know the final line-ups two days beforehand and some may want to grab better odds as early as possible.

Racecard information and odds are kept simple and there is no live streaming available, but the racing section is at least slick and good looking and cannot be described as one of the worst we’ve seen when reviewing even more established betting firms.

Other Betting Markets

As we’ve mentioned during other such reviews, online bookmakers wishing to trade in the UK need to bet on a multitude of sports as this is what people want in what is such a varied and disparate sector for its customers.

Genting’s sports betting markets, much like their horse racing markets, feature prices that are kept fair versus their competitors without ever really looking anything outstanding.  The markets on each individual sport aren’t that deep, but there are plenty of sports listed available to play and they include:

American Football, Aussie Rules Football, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Cycling, Darts, Football, Gaelic Football, Gaelic Hurling, Golf, Greyhounds, Handball, Horse Racing, Ice Hockey, Motor Sports, Pool, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Snooker, Specials, Tennis, UFC, Virtuals and Volleyball.

Mobile Betting Options & Apps

Given that live betting is to the fore with Genting Bet, though not streaming it of course, both a mobile site and app are offered for Genting Bet and both behave understandably in a very similar manner.

For the most part the mobile app, which is available for all smartphones and tablets on iOS and Android formats, looks broadly similar to the main site in terms of design and colour scheme.  The main menu is up on the left of the screen and the main live betting highlights are featured right in the middle.

The main menu in both the app and the mobile site gives a full list of sports and markets, the same as you’d find on the main site, with promotions also made available though it must be noted that these are the exact same ones you’ll find on the main site; nothing specific for on-the-go players and still very poor overall as we’ve mentioned.

Given that Genting’s sports betting brand overall is a little simplistic, it wouldn’t have been too hard to feature everything they have on the mobile sites and so they have.  The mini-sites remain slick, easy to use, simple to navigate and with a professional and enjoyable colour scheme largely made up of black and red.

We’d definitely like to see a company of this size invest in the rights to show live sports, as streaming being added to the app and mobile site would take the firm forward quite a long way in one leap.

Banking Options

Genting Bet promises a full range of banking options, though the information we have is limited to three main sources.  We’d suggest that, if your preferred option isn’t listed, that you contact Genting before you join up to ensure your payment method is supported.  We have customer support details listed below.

Each of Genting Bet’s advertised payment methods have different minimums and maximums assigned to them and all are void of fees, the list being:

Method Deposit Time Minimum Deposit Maximum Deposit Withdrawal Time Minimum Withdrawal Maximum Withdrawal
Visa/Maestro Debit Cards Instant £10 N/A 3 – 4 working days £10 N/A
Visa/MasterCard Credit Cards Instant £10 N/A 3 – 4 working days £10 N/A
Skrill Instant £50 N/A Within 24 hours £50 N/A

Security

The bottom line here is; is Genting Bet safe to use?  Unsurprisingly the answer is ‘yes’.  Given that we only like to deal with bookmakers fully licenced by the UK Gambling Commission, they all have to follow very stringent rules and this firm is no different in that regard.

At the bottom of Genting’s main page you will find that they are fully licenced and that they use good encryption protocols meaning all of your personal and banking data is kept safe at all times – there are no worries in this area.

Customer Support

This area is definitely a strong point we’ve found, as the customer service team for Genting Bet is the same one dealing with the much larger Genting Casino business and so the team is large, readily available and very well-informed indeed.

When heading to the ‘customer support’ section, available in pride of place at the top of the screen, you will find a host of options available to you with the major selling point here being that the team are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Live Help is Genting’s live chat system and this, as regular readers will know, is always our preferred option.  Using a live chat system means you are getting your issues ironed out there and then, yet still you are having it dealt with in writing meaning no confusion afterwards.

The live chat function opens in a new window meaning you do not have to navigate away from whatever you were watching beforehand.  The only downside of the system is that live chat is not available to players using the app, something we hope can be rectified at some point.

If you’re in no hurry to resolve anything, you can email the team at support@gentingcasino.com with responses typically arriving within a day and being mostly satisfactory.

Going along with the theme that Genting’s customer service is their strong point, if you wish to talk to them on the phone then their Call Back Service could be for you.  Click on this, enter a few details and Genting will call you to ensure you don’t pay the phone bill!

Genting Bet Company Details

Genting, while based in the UK in Birmingham and being an established brand name in the UK and Europe, is actually Malaysian-owned and has been around on the scene as a casino since back in 1965.

Since its early days it has steadily grown and now boasts casinos all around the world, 47 of them in Britain alone and after diversifying over the decades into different territories and even differing sectors such as tourism, Genting eventually decided it would jump on the sportsbook bandwagon in 2014 and so began Genting Bet.

Genting’s owner is Lim Kok Thay, a 67-year-old resident of Kuala Lumpur who is the son of the founder, billionaire Lim Goh Tong.

Despite the size of the parent company, Genting Bet has faced no majorly bad publicity since getting in on the sports betting market act and given its distinctive logo and easily recognisable brand, it is looking to grow this business quickly in order to compete fully with the likes of William Hill, LadbrokesCoral and bet 365 in time.

Genting Bet Bottom Line

We like that Genting as an overall entity is utterly recognisable and trustworthy and we simply loved their customer service options.

Odds here are fair if unspectacular and there are plenty of varying sports to bet on meaning on the whole, most sports betting types will feel their area of expertise is covered but the firm is not without its major negatives at this stage unfortunately.

Firstly the bonus programmes; these are woefully short of where they should be. Existing sports bettors will not be tempted away from their current bookmakers by a £25 first bet insurance, nor do they want free spins (they’d have simply joined the casino) and best odds guaranteed is simply expected now by regular horse racing punters.

If Genting Bet fixes this and adds live streaming to the mix though, they’d have a brand truly capable of taking on the sports betting big boys in the UK and beyond.
