Based in Dublin, Paddy Power is now long established in the bookmaking industry and especially within the horse racing niche.  Having merged with Betfair in 2016, Paddy Power is now part of one of the biggest bookmaking entities anywhere on the planet.

The firm was founded way back in 1988 as the result of a merger between three bookmakers; Stewart Kenny, David Power and John Corcoran who between them had 40 shops.  The newly merged group managed to fight off huge competition from British-based high street firms such as Ladbrokes and William Hill.

Paddy Power is well known for its aggressive and risqué advertising strategies as well as its wont for quick expansion.  They use media and social media very well and are among the most trusted brands on the market these days, taking their Irish market share from 8% upon start-up to over 33% by 2001.

Paddy Power Sign Up Offer

The current Paddy Power new customer offer is a fairly standard offering, marketed as ‘bet £10 get £40’.

The bonus is partially broken up with new players getting £30 in free sports bets and another £10 games bonus to be used only on a specific slot machine game.

When you join, simply place a £10 bet on any sportsbook market at odds of 1/2 (1.5) or higher to get the bonus in your account automatically.  These minimum odds and bet amount are in line with the likes of LadbrokesCoral and William Hill but way behind bonus market leaders bet365 in all truth.

Your free bet is valid for 30 days after making the qualifying bet and only bets placed with a major card or PayPal can count, though other deposit options are available (see below).  Your free bets can be used on any sportsbook market including horse racing and while the overall amount is on the low side, getting 3 x your money to bet on horses is fair enough.

Paddy Power Ongoing Promotions

As well as the £10 risk free bet for new players, Paddy Power offer numerous promotions at any one time.  Paddy’s Rewards Club for example gives backers the chance to get a free £10 bet for every five £10 bets placed.  Once again qualifying bets need to be at odds of 1/2 (1.5) or bigger.

Extra places are available on certain UK and Irish horse races meaning you can choose slightly lower odds but increase your chances of landing an each-way bet, i.e. if your horse is 10/1 and the standard each-way terms are for three places, you can add a fourth place at odds of 9/1.

We could do with seeing more promos aimed at the racing market but if you like a football bet you can get acca insurance on all four-folds and above while regular offers are given within the greyhound, tennis cricket markets among others.

Security

Naturally Paddy Power is licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission, holding all valid certificates.  The firm also employs strict security protocols to protect punters’ personal and financial data.

Encryption is employed using the SSL mechanism meaning any and all information provided by players remains ciphered so that it cannot be stolen by third parties.  Firewalls are also in operation on the Paddy Power websites to further protect players from unauthorised access to information.

As one of the world’s major betting firms, a dedicated full-time team is employed by Paddy Power to keep tabs on security and data who have introduced features such as the one that logs you out of your account if you have not used it within 24 hours, meaning nobody can pick up your device from that point and play without your permission.

Paddy Power Horse Betting Features

All of Paddy Power’s main features and events are displayed down the left side of the screen for convenience, including in-play options and all major sports, horse racing of course being one of them.

After clicking through the horse racing button you will see special racing promotions, should there be any on a given day.  These may include enhanced prices on doubles for certain horses at specific meetings.

Below this is a comprehensive list of all the day’s racing action with races in the UK and Ireland listed in ‘next off’ order, though you can click on them individually course by course by clicking ‘meetings’.  Within this option, as well as domestic action prices are offered on races overseas including America, Australia, France, India, South Africa and plenty more besides.

Within each race is a well detailed list of runners including the trainer and jockey, their form and of course their current odds.  Clicking on ‘more information’ also brings up a quick synopsis and look at recent form from the Racing Post meaning no pertinent information is left out.

Options for betting in each race including traditional win & each-way as well as forecast & tricast, place, match bets and insurance.  A run-down of the contenders and a genuine tip from the Racing Post is given at the bottom of the page which we find to be a good gesture from the site.

You can grab the familiar best odds guaranteed offer on all UK and Irish races, meaning if you take a price on a horse and the SP ends up bigger, you will be paid out at the bigger price.  You can watch all UK and Irish races live as long as you have placed a bet of at least 50p and the only thing that seems to be missing from the horse racing offering is the ability to place Totepool bets, though the market is changing in that regard in 2019.

Odds in general on horse racing markets are very competitive, Paddy Power clearly not forgetting that despite all the marketing what makes a bookmaker an attractive prospect for a punter is a good price.

You can bet on ante-post events and there is a dedicated Cheltenham section featuring early prices and specials for all the big races both domestically and internationally.

Other Betting Markets

On the left of the screen you will see PP’s full list of available betting options and this is not an area they are lacking in.  Featured sports and events include: boxing, cricket, darts, football, golf, greyhounds, hockey, NBA, NFL, politics, rugby, snooker, tennis, TV specials and more.

Below the main list is a full A-Z of betting meaning you will struggle to not find the bet of your choice, though if it is not listed simply speak to a member of the team and ask for a price via social media.

Paddy Power’s strong team of traders and odds compilers ensure that, while they are of course protecting their own interests, they have kept their various betting markets very competitive.  Prices are generally good; they are updated all the time and regular promos keep things interesting.

PP are careful to make sure promotions are kept varied as mentioned above, so whatever your chosen event ensure that you click on the dedicated ‘promotions’ page to see what is out there sport by sport.  These can change at least every week so don’t miss out.

Mobile Betting Options & Apps

As expected with such a large firm, the mobile betting options with Paddy Power are top notch with markets available on all smartphone and tablets with or without download.

Those on iOS or Android can manage their accounts, claim bonuses and withdraw using the mobile options which work just as slick and equally as fast as the main desktop site.  As far as the app is concerned, anyone on Android 4.1.6 or iOS 8.0 and above can use the system.

The mobile site and app maintains the company line with the familiar green colour scheme in operation, the sports options this time placed across the top of the page while ads for offers and promotions are just below.

At the bottom a full menu is offered giving you access to the cash-out feature as well as non-sports related games such as blackjack, roulette and other casino games.

You can bet on Paddy Power’s full range of sports and events using the mobile versions with there also being the possibility of a mobile only bonus, a free £20 bet for new customers only.

Fast login, live streaming, all promos and a full banking facility are all available meaning this firm is one of the few who have recognised that a slimmed-down version of their platform on mobile and app is no longer acceptable.  We bet on the go these days and as such demand a full service.  Paddy Power does not disappoint.

Banking Options

Being one of the world’s major wagering firms we fully expected that we would find no shortage of banking options and this is indeed the case.  Paddy Power horse racing offers, fixed odds bets and promos can be funded by a variety of payment methods.  All deposits are free of charge, here’s the full list:

Customer Support

While Paddy Power have at their disposal a number of ways to get in touch, they unfortunately don’t make them as clear on the website as they perhaps should.  A small ‘help’ button at the top of the page takes you to an FAQ page and it seems they mostly want interaction on social media, therefore not private and helping their marketing.

There is within this page a ‘contact us’ section, though we’d prefer to see this take pride of place on the homepage.  Frankly though, even when you’re inside this basically just removes the FAQ’s and instead gives you sections to click on.  You’ll need to click on ‘help with something else’ before being given an option to call them on 0800 056 527 and to leave them a message on the site, but only if you’re already a member!

We really need to see a live chat option here as this is always the quickest and easiest way to get answers, though at least once you do get through to a PP representative over the phone they show themselves to be polite and well informed.

Their penchant for social media means they are very quick to respond on Twitter, but we need more privacy than that and so a well manned email account, especially for those not already registered is becoming a must.

Paddy Power Company Details

PP’s unique take on marketing, especially within horse racing, has seen them grow from around 30 shops in Ireland only to over 500 in Ireland and the UK today as well as being among the most popular online betting sites in the world.

Soon after the internet betting revolution took place around the turn of the millennium, PP quickly launched dedicated poker, casino, games and bingo sites to become essentially old hands at the internet wagering game.  Paddy Power’s iPhone app has been out since May 2010 and since it was an instant hit, they have become one of the most successful firms within the iPad and Android markets too.

Following the merger with Betfair in 2016, the firm overall became Paddy Power Betfair, this brand is now valued at over £6billion.  Having gained hefty market shares in Europe and Australia, the firm now has their sights on the recently relaxed sports betting markets in various US states.

Paddy Power Bottom Line

There are very few negatives to speak of when it comes to Paddy Power, though unfortunately the main two are important and really should be addressed as soon as possible.

The lack of available customer service options, especially a live chat for those not already registered, along with a more valuable bonus could be looked at in the coming year or so and that is something we would very much welcome.

Deposits are instant, withdrawals are free and fast and both the quality and quantity of their betting options are virtually unsurpassed.

Paddy Power offers a quality live streaming service, a fully functioning app and mobile service and allows you to bet with one of the most popular and trusted brands anywhere in the sports betting worldwide sphere.
